TAWAU: Tawau MP Datuk Christina Liew will be handing out 4,000 food baskets comprising rice and other food essentials to her constituents throughout the parliamentary constituency over the next few weeks.
For a start, she gave out 200 food baskets to residents impacted by the Movement Control Order 3.0 (MCO 3.0) and those in the enhanced movement control order (PKPD) areas on Thursday.
“This food aid distribution is made under the auspices of the National People’s Well-Being and Economic Recovery Package (Pemulih).
“There is a high demand for food relief in the district because the total lockdown (MCO 3.0) which began on June 1 has been extended indefinitely,” Liew, who is also Api Api Assemblywoman, told reporters.
She is being assisted by her team from the Tawau Parliamentary People’s Service Centre.
On June 28, the Prime Minister announced that Putrajaya would set aside RM300,000 for each MP (including Opposition MPs) to implement a food basket programme for affected people in their respective constituencies.
