KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Computer Society (SCS) had a very successful e-waste collection event over the last week-end, said its President Chin Kui Jin.

She said there was overwhelming response from the public, resulting in 40 crates filled with personal computers, laptops,  printers, mobile phones and other types of electrical components ranging from LCD TVs, refrigerators, built-in ovens, air conditioners, toasters, irons and fans to many other items.

Chin expressed  the Society’s appreciation to its partners comprising the Department of Environment, NCT Freight & Forwarding Sdn Bhd, Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) and Sabah Credit Corporation for their cooperation in ensuring yet another fruitful endeavour.

Meanwhile, Event Organising Chairperson Walter Cheng said SCS is planning for another round of the same activity before Christmas. “This will be timely to assist our community in clearing their e-waste as they prepare to welcome the New Year,” he said.

According to him, over the years, the Society has managed to educate the community on the importance of proper e-waste disposal through this collaborative collection effort.

“We are very happy that many of our public consumers are very much aware of the environmentally-friendly way of disposing of their (unwanted) electronic and electrical devices nowadays.

“Together we strive for a better, cleaner and healthier environment,” Cheng said.
