TAWAU: Christian communities from 14 churches in the Tawau parliamentary constituency here have expressed their gratefulness for the food aid programme under the National People’s Well-Being and Economic Recovery Package (Pemulih).

Over the weekend, Tawau MP Datuk Christina Liew visited the churches to hand out food baskets to leaders for distribution to their members.

Pastor Amos Petrus, who represented Gereja Pantekosta Tawau, expressed his appreciation to the Tawau MP for considering the well-being of church members.

Chairman Daniel Chan and Pastor Pau Kiu Kiong, who received the food baskets from Liew on behalf of Bintang Garden Baptist Church, said they would distribute them to members of their congregation.

Pastor Winston Tai of Xin Ann Baptist Church at Jalan Sin Onn thanked the elected representative for having included churches in the list of recipients. “The food basket programme is good, at least it helps those really in need. Those in the rural areas are in the depths of poverty.”

According to Pastor Rita Simon of Gereja Baptis Husana Tawau, the supply of rice and other food essentials provides some relief to many household heads who are struggling to feed their families during this critical period.

Liew, who is also Api Api Assemblywoman, also met with the Chairman Yonatan Musang and Pastor Ho Tet Kee of Gereja Baptis Tawau (BM Congregation) and Sri Tanjung Baptist Church (Chinese Congregation), respectively.
