Meet & Greet Session

TAWAU:Consumers fretted about the soaring prices of sandwiches, buns, pastries and beehoon/noodle dishes served at coffee shops when Tawau MP Datuk Christina Liew dropped by during a visit to her constituency on Thursday.

A plate of kon loh mee (Malaysian dry sauce noodles), which used to cost RM7.00, is now priced up to RM11.00, depending on the ingredients used such as char siu (barbecued pork).

Coffee shop owners said the rising cost of food essentials such as cooking oil, sugar, salt and flour has forced them to raise the prices of food items sold at their premises. According to one towkay, a kilo of lam nyuk (pork belly) now costs RM36 and may even rise up to RM40 in the near future.
