KOTA KINABALU: The State government has increased the allocation for the Api Api constituency from RM1.6 million in 2019 to RM3 million for the current fiscal year.
Incumbent Api Api Assemblywoman Datuk Christina Liew disclosed this at the launching of the Five-Year Kota Kinabalu Landscape Beautification Blueprint (2021-2025) by caretaker Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal at Taman Chong Thien Vun here on Monday.
“The allocation was spent on providing garbage bins for public use, building of rubbish traps, improvement of playgrounds at housing estates and on some landscape upgrading projects listed under the Kota Kinabalu Landscape Beautification Blueprint,” she said.
In retrospect, Liew, who is also caretaker Deputy Chief Minister, said the projects implemented in 2019 included upgrading works on Taman Lintasan Deasoka, the pedestrian walkway fronting SJK (C) Chung Hwa (KK), KK Bypass road divider and the Kg Air Night Market location, improvement of ‘planter boxes’ in the city and the shops’ five-footway drainage system, improvement of children’s playground facilities in the housing estates and the like.
She said the main objective of the blueprint is to transform the KK City landscape into a more attractive, greener and cleaner environment for the local community and tourists alike.
“The proposed projects under the KK Landscape Beautification Blueprint will not only beautify the city with flowering and non-flowering trees, and conserve the hilly areas, rivers and beaches but will also address the need to upgrade basic facilities such as pedestrian walkway, rest shed, recreational equipment and space for business operations,” she said.
The blueprint encompasses three main aspects of development, namely Main Activity Nod Area Development;
Green Linkages Development; and Green Lungs Development. The Main Activity Nod Area Development will see the upgrading and beautification of the city centre, small towns like Tanjung Aru, Inanam, Menggatal, Sepanggar and Telipok; and beautification of the gateway to Kota Kinabalu bordering districts like Petagas, Penampang and Tuaran.
The plan contains the following proposals :
