KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Pakatan Harapan (Sabah PH) expressed its wholehearted support for Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Unity Government under his leadership.

Two billboards have been erected, one here and in Tawau, to congratulate the new PM.

Sabah PH Chairman Datuk Christina Liew said she and the leaders of component parties (PKR, DAP, Amanah and UPKO) stand solidly behind Anwar in his reform struggle for a clean, people-oriented and competent government of high integrity, with focus on economic development.

“We wish Datuk Seri Anwar all the best in his endeavours amidst challenges towards attaining economic recovery and taking Malaysia to a new level, in the hope of regaining its days of glory.

“We wish him fruitful outcomes in his advocacy for the principles of good governance, transparency and accountability in administering the country,” she said in a statement on Sunday.

Calling on the people to embrace the value of patience, Liew said : “We cannot expect to see tangible results overnight. We have to give the new government the chance to perform and prove its mettle in resolving the country’s outstanding problems.

“Deeply-entrenched issues such as corruption and financial leakage cannot be resolved, simply at the stroke of a pen. And government leaders need ample time to implement the development agenda for the nation.”

The process of nation-building involves the proactive participation of all stakeholders, including civil society and the civil service, she added. “We are optimistic that law-abiding civil servants will support the unity government and render their cooperation by putting its (government’s) policies and plans into action for the benefit of the rakyat.”

On dissatisfaction expressed by certain groups over the composition of the new Federal Cabinet, Liew said it is the prerogative of the Prime Minister.

“Given a downsized cabinet, it is impossible for Datuk Seri Anwar to appease all parties from the political spectrum,” she added.
