KOTA KINABALU: Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Christina Liew acknowledged the important role and contribution of every single head
of department and agency under her ministry.
There are six departments and agencies under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment (KePKAS), namely Sabah Tourism Board (STB), Sabah Cultural Board, Sabah Parks Board of Trustees, Sabah Wildlife Department, Sabah Museum Department and Environment Protection
Department, Sabah.
“All heads of departments and agencies as well as all staff members of the ministry and departments/agencies are valued as part of the ‘KePKAS Family’,” she said.
Liew, who is also Deputy Chief Minister, was speaking at the Welcoming Dinner for the Ministry’s new Permanent Secretary Dr Jamili Nais (who succeeded Datuk William Baya) cum Special Appreciation Dinner for outgoing Deputy Permanent Secretary, Hajah Mariam Omar Matusin (who has been appointed Deputy State Secretary (Administration) at Hilton Kota Kinabalu, recently.
Meanwhile, the Minister, who hosted the dinner, described Dr Jamili as an asset to the Ministry by virtue of his illustrious professional career leading to where he is today, and his vast experience in the civil service.
Currently, Dr Jamili is the only Asian member of the World Heritage Panel of the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature.
This panel provides high quality, technical and scientific advice to UNESCO regarding all matters related to natural World Heritage sites,
“Which is why our Ministry is in good hands, and I have no doubt about it,” Liew said.
The Minister also congratulated Mariam on her new role, saying she is one of the very few Sabahan women who have made it to the top. “We are very proud of you,” she added.
Mariam, who spent 12 years at the Ministry from 2008 to May 2020, initiated the motto “Melakar Sejarah” (Creating History) for the Ministry on August 30, 2018. “I am glad the Ministry has adopted it,” she said.
Among those who attended were Chairman of STB, Ken Pan Ying On, Chairman of Sabah Cultural Board, Datuk Ismaily Bungsu, Chairman of Sabah Parks Board of Trustees, Mohd Amin Mem and Sri Pelancongan Sabah General Manager, Zachary Mobijohn.
Also present were Sabah Tourism Board (STB) General Manager, Noredah Othman,
