LABUAN, A total of 11 school children received free eye examinations and free prescription glasses through the programme “Eyes For School” Organized Lions Club of Labuan Mandarin
According to the Organizer, Chua Pui Shien, the program is part of the Sight First program to provide free vision screening, eye exams and prescription glasses donations to students in low-income communities
“Through the cooperation and support of the Labuan Education Department and Labuan Optics, a total of 11 students were selected from SRJK Chung Hwa, SK Pekan Dua and SK Layang-Layangan” she said.
The spectacle presentation ceremony was held at the Manikar Room, W.P.Labuan Education Department, Financial Park Complex Labuan recently.
Also present at the event were the Samsul Mandisin, Ketua Penolong Pengarah Unit Bakat Murid, Sektor Pembangunan Murid, Sally Hue, owner of Labuan Optics, Chua Pui Shien, Organising Chairperson, Jessica Lee, Club President / Zone 12 Chairperson District 308-A2 and Yuki Wong, Club Service Coordinator.
Meanwhile, Samsul thanked the Lions Club of Labuan Mandarin not only for this program but also the long-term relationship in co-curriculum and sports programs and previous community service projects including the contribution of 219 food packs to students in need from B40 families from 41 schools in Labuan during the pandemic period.
Chua said the programme was our Club’s intention to reduce the risk of preventable blindness and help those with vision problems, especially among young and old people through the programme.
‘We hope that with this little gift, we can provide better vision, so that children can function better in their environment and to reduce the risk of injury to them due to poor eye vision’ Chua said.
