Liew commends MMEA for endured work in Esszone

TAWAU: Tawau MP Datuk Christina Liew commended the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) for having confiscated some 32kg of suspected Syabu (Methamphetamine) valued at RM1.76 million in waters off Inderasabah here, recently.

She said the seizure showed that the MMEA personnel had been on the alert at all times to eliminate such illegal activities, especially within waters in the Esszone (a security zone in Sabah).

“Kudos to the MMEA, and keep up the laudable effort. We know they have not rested on their laurels despite having achieved an excellent track record in thwarting the drug-related activities of perpetrators in the area concerned.

“Success stories such as this would boost public confidence in the capabilities of the MMEA,” Liew said in a statement on Monday.

Earlier this year, the MMEA also foiled a cooking oil smuggling bid in the waters off Semporna, and halted fish bombing activities off Kudat, among others.

Meanwhile, Liew noted that other enforcement agencies such as the Police Contingent, Marine Police and General Operations Force (GOF) have also been doing great work in nabbing illegal immigrants who attempted to enter the State illegally, and confiscating contraband goods like cigarettes, diesel and foodstuff in the agencies’ efforts to ensure security and maintain public order.
