KOTA KINABALU : It is no small feat for any non-governmental organisation (NGO) to weather the ups and downs of the times, and remain strong today.
Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Christina Liew said this when officiating at the Persatuan Kecergasan & Pembangunan Orang Tua Kota Kinabalu (Persatuan KOAT) Chap Goh Mei celebration at its premises on Sunday.
“Persatuan KOAT’s capacity to face and survive the challenges over the last 30 years in caring for the well-being of members, is commendable.
“Keep up the good record of performance, and if the association needs any assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know,” she said.
Liew, who is also Api-Api Assemblywoman, was welcomed on arrival by the Chairman of Persatuan KOAT Tang Yew Hia, Immediate Past Chairman Datuk Chang Chin Shin and Secretary-General Liew Syn Biau.
The Minister shared the joy of the last day of the Chinese New Year festivities by partaking of lunch with about 150 senior citizens. She sponsored the celebration and gave out ang pows to members who attended the event.
Meanwhile, Life Honorary Chairman Datuk Michael Lui Yen Sang described Liew as a leader of calibre who can deliver the goods.
“Given her portfolio, we have every faith in her ability to woo more international tourists to Sabah. The more visitors we have from abroad, the greater the job opportunities for our local community. This will in turn rejuvenate the tourism industry and contribute to a vibrant economy,” he said.
Also present were Assistant Minister of Finance cum Likas Assemblyman, Tan Lee Fatt, and local community leader Datuk Nancy Ho.
