KOTA KINABALU: Clogged drains are a likely cause of flash floods along Jalan Sang Kancil in Karamunsing here, of late, said Api Api Assemblywoman Datuk Christina Liew.
The former Deputy Chief Minister said these drains are overgrown with vegetation hindering the outflow of excess rain water and causing the deluge.
“We can hardly see the drains at certain spots. This week alone, residents in the area experienced flash floods twice when the drains overflowed and storm water spilled over into the compound of their homes,” she said.

Liew, who is also Tawau MP, called on the Public Works Department (JKR) to check out the storm water drainage system in the affected area and rectify the problem plaguing the residents.
Meanwhile, the residents concerned said they are entitled to good drainage infrastructure, among other public amenities, in return for paying their annual house assessment rates without fail.
