KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Malaysian Red Crescent (BSMM) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) are able to assist the government in meeting the needs of the people in Sabah in the future.

Sabah State Community Development and People’s Well-being Minister (KPMKR), Datuk James Bin Ratib, said the close cooperation between the two institutions can help vulnerable groups in need as a complement to the government’s work today

“I am happy to know that BSMM Sabah works closely with KPMKR, the Sabah General Welfare Services Department and the Sabah Community Services Council (MPMS) for welfare programs that benefit the needy community.

“Recently I also understood that BSMM Sabah has assisted MPMS in monitoring and providing first aid assistance to trainees placed in the Non-Citizen Beggar Isolation Center from the beginning of February 2023 until today.

“Therefore, I am confident that BSMM and ICRC are able to assist the government in meeting the needs of the people in the State of Sabah for the years to come,” he said.

James said, he was very excited to see the close cooperation between the BSMM and the ICRC, where since the establishment of the ICRC in Sabah in 2013, various cooperation and technical support between the two bodies had been implemented.

“Several training series such as Training of Trainers (ToT) for Health & Hygiene and Core Team Workshop were conducted by the ICRC to prepare the volunteers involved in running the program in the field.

“BSMM and ICRC have established a ‘Core team’ of the Sabah SBMM to support the Harmonized First Aid Program (FATH) in villages and the Health and Hygiene (H&H) Program for children and adults.

“What I hope is that this program can help vulnerable groups in need as a complement to the government’s work today. Well done and congratulations,” he said.

He added that the efforts and the Initiative can increase the capacity and expertise of volunteers, especially in the State of Sabah.

James who is also the Sugut Assemblyman said this in conjunction with the Breaking the Fast Ceremony organized by BSMM and ICRC held at the Timpohon & Laban Rata Ballroom, Le Meridien Hotel, on Wednesday.

He was also proud to see the achievements of BSMM through the blood donation programs, distribution of food baskets, vaccination programs and hotspot ambulance services conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.

“In addition, I also note that BSMM and ICRC are working very hard through various challenges, working hard with full commitment to carry out humanitarian work and help for the community.

“To build public trust in our work is not an easy task, but we hope that the efforts and strategy improvement for BSMM and ICRC will make it stand firm as a great and respected body.

“I would like to emphasize that the government always gives full support to the programs carried out by BSMM and ICRC to serve the people of Sabah,” he said.

James hopes that with the efforts and determination of the work done by BSMM and ICRC, unity, cooperation and devotional service can be further enhanced for joint development in the future.
