Don’t violate MCO, Tawau folks told

Christina Liew

TAWAU: Member of Parliament for Tawau, Datuk Christina Liew appealed to the people here to stay home and not defy the Movement Control Order (MCO) which has been extended to May 12.

She said it is for their own good to follow the ‘dos and don’ts’ provided in the guidelines, instead of taking the risk of being penalised or charged in court and jailed at its worst.

“I am repeating my clarion call to the residents of Tawau. Do not violate the MCO. We must avert the potential risk of COVID-19 infection. Please do not leave your home unless you have an emergency
or an important matter to attend to or you need to seek medical attention,” she said in a statement, Thursday.

Liew, who is also Deputy Chief Minister, reminded the people to avoid abusing any official letters issued by any authority concerned, that allow them to go out for official matters.

“Do not misuse such letters to travel freely during the MCO period when you are actually not on duty. We do not wish to see a recurrence of the tragedy that occurred last Friday (April 24),” she said.

The Tawau MP was commenting on the unfortunate case where a TM contractor’s worker was killed in an accident in Tawau, during which he was not assigned to any official duty.

“I was informed about the matter. The incident is most regrettable,” she added. Ends
