Contribution of RM20,000 and basic necessities to the Tawau Benevolent Care Centre

TAWAU: MP for Tawau Datuk Christina Liew has announced an allocation of RM20,000 from her MP Fund for the use of the Tawau Benevolent Care Centre  which provides day care and therapy to 65 underprivileged persons.

She made the announcement during her visit to the institution on Tuesday, which was arranged by the Tawau Parliamentary Women and Children Bureau led by Lau Jin Nah.

“Of the sum, RM10,000 is meant for the needs of the deaf and dumb, and the remaining sum is for the care of persons with ‘special needs’ under the auspices of the Tawau Benevolent Care Centre,” she said.

Liew, who is also Deputy Chief Minister, was briefed on the role of the institution and its necessities by the Chairman Dr Lo Vun Kong who
is also Chairman of the Tawau Society for the Deaf, and the Principal Irene Yapp.

Set up in 1986, the building for the Tawau Benevolent Care Centre was donated by Aokam.

Meanwhile, the Minister contributed foodstuff, school items, toiletries and other necessities to the Centre, which were received by Yapp.

Liew was accompanied by the Tawau Parliamentary Chief Liaison Officer, Fung Thin Yein, Liaison Officer Robert Penggai, Tawau Parliamentary People’s Service Centre’s Secretary Steven Chan and Kapitan Cina Chin Chong Min. END
