BELURAN: A Health Clinic here was destroyed after a fire incident that happened near here on Wednesday night.
Beluran BBP Station Head PPgB Edoen Macheal said the incident happened at Tangkarason Health Clinic, Beluran, Sabah at around midnight.
“An emergency call was received through the MERS999 line at 1.08am and a group of four firemen led by the Operations Commander, PBKII John Francis Andam rushed to the location.
“Arriving at the scene which is located 215 kilometers from the station, we found that there had been a fire involving Kg Tangkarason Beluran Health Clinic and the 60×30 square feet non-permanent workers’ quarters were 100% burnt when the Fire Brigade arrived at the location.
“The fire brigade extinguished the remaining fire using 1 stream of 100 feet and 2 fountains of open water sources (nearby pond).
The operation was reported to be under control at 6.20am and no casualties were reported to be involved,” he said.
Meanwhile, Assistant Medical Officer U29 Tangkarason Health Clinic, Melvin Edward said that before the incident, he had checked and made sure that all light switches, fans, air conditioners and medical equipment were turned off, before leaving the clinic that night.
“Around 11.58pm, while moving from a patient’s home back to the Tangkarason Health Clinic, I received a call from my wife, she told me that the Clinic was on fire.
“I arrived at the Tangkarason Health Clinic and found that the Clinic was on fire from the Mch room, the emergency room, the OPD room, the PPK room and the Meeting room.
“My wife and child managed to save themselves. The health workers and their families who lived in the nurse’s home also managed to save themselves and there were no casualties,” he said.
Melvin said that the villagers tried to put out the fire but failed because there was not enough water supply.
He added that due to the very long distance from the Beluran Fire Station to the Tangkarason Health Clinic, they were unable to respond to this case immediately, resulting in the clinic being completely destroyed in the fire.
