Be vigilant and take precautions, Liew reminds Tawau folks

TAWAU: There is no room for complacency although Tawau is no longer a red zone area today in terms of the prevalence of COVID-19 in the district since February this year, says former Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Christina Liew.

The Tawau MP said statistics (released by the State COVID-19 Disaster Management Operation Centre) indicated that from topping the state in respect of the daily record since last year until early this year, on and off, Tawau has been on a declining trend onwards from 41 new cases on Feb 6.

“Since then, the district has been fluctuating between yellow zone (1-19) and orange zone (20-40) with two new cases on March 8 and only one case on March 9, and subsequently five cases on March 12 and March 14.

“This is a good sign that we are gradually on the road to recovery, and heading towards a green zone status (0). However, the people of Tawau cannot afford to be complacent about the downward trajectory, as danger could still be lurking in our environment,” Liew said.

She was speaking to reporters after a “Meet and Greet the People” session at the old township at Batu 3, Jalan Apas, here, on Sunday.

Liew, who is also Api Api Assemblywoman, reminded the Tawau folks to remain vigilant and take precautions by continuing to wear face masks and use hand sanitisers when they go out to public areas, and to avoid crowded places.
