KOTA KINABALU: The Welfare Section of the WU Association, in collaboration with its Women’s Section, brought festive joy to children at Bukit Harapan ahead of the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration.
The outreach programme saw the association contributing daily necessities and distributing Chinese New Year angpows to the children, enabling them to share in the blessings and spirit of the festive season. The initiative forms part of the association’s ongoing efforts to give back to society and extend assistance to underprivileged groups.
The delegation was led by WU Association Chairman Nicholas Ng, Welfare Head Wu Xin En and Women’s Section Head Wu Ai Ling, accompanied by committee members. The visit was marked by cheerful interactions, with members spending quality time engaging the children in a warm and lively atmosphere.
In his address, Chairman Wu Ri Zheng said the association remains committed to the principle of “from society, for society,” expressing hope that consistent acts of kindness will continue to provide encouragement and meaningful support to those in need.
He noted that Chinese New Year symbolises not only reunion and celebration, but also an opportunity to share compassion and hope, while encouraging more members of the public to participate in charitable initiatives benefiting vulnerable children.
Meanwhile, Bukit Harapan founder Dato Anne Keyworth Nee John conveyed her appreciation for the association’s thoughtful gesture. She said the orphanage continues to care for and nurture children from disadvantaged backgrounds, but relies heavily on sustained public contributions to meet its operational needs.
She urged the community to demonstrate greater concern for vulnerable groups through donations, sponsorships or volunteerism.
The association also expressed gratitude to its committee members and sponsors whose generosity contributed to the success of the Chinese New Year outreach programme.

The visit concluded on a positive note, reflecting the spirit of unity and compassion as the festive season approaches.
