KOTA KINABALU: The State Government through the Ministry of Community Development and People’s Well-being (KPMKR), has established the Sabah State Healthy Malaysia National Agenda (ANMS) Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Working Committee on Tuesday.
KPMKR Minister, cum Sabah State Health EXCO Datuk James Ratib said, ANMS is a health welfare package that is researched, planned and then introduced by the Government with the aim of cultivating a healthy life and preserving the environment to support the well-being of the people.
“ANMS is implemented for a period of 10 years, starting from 2021 to 2030.
“ANMS under the Sabah Maju Jaya Development Plan 2021-2025 is the brainchild of the Sabah State Government centered on three cores which are S (The main sectors focused on economic growth i.e. agriculture, industry and tourism), M (Human capital and people’s well-being) and J (Infrastructure Network and green sustainability).
“The ANMS-SMJ tour that will be implemented in 2022 is a smart partnership between the Ministry of Health and the State Government in an effort to promote the health well-being of the people of Sabah,” he said.
James who is also the Sugut Assemblyman said this while chairing the Sabah State ANMS-SMJ Committee Establishment Meeting held here on Tuesday.
He thanked all the members of the meeting for their willingness to attend the meeting.
He added that apart from the establishment of the ANMS-SMJ Committee, the meeting was also held to appoint a Coordinating Officer (Focal Point) representing each ministry to coordinate the implementation of programs and activities involving various departments and agencies as well as NGOs.
“The objective of ANMS is in line with the direction of SMJ which not only focuses on economic development but also on human capital, people’s well-being, infrastructure network and green sustainability.
“For sustainable economic development, we need people who are healthy not only from the physical aspect but also have mental well-being.
“ANMS is the national agenda by cultivating a healthy way of life through empowering the people to improve their own health through collaboration with the government’s strategic partners,” he said.
Meanwhile, James said that ANMS SMJ, on the other hand, highlighted the desire towards achieving physical and mental health well-being for the people of Sabah.
“The combination of the ANMS-SMJ concept is timely. Health is made a priority in all government/agency development plans (Health in All Policy) through the ‘Whole of Nation’ approach in the implementation of ANMS.
“The comprehensive involvement of all parties, whether government agencies, non-government agencies, the private sector and the people, is important to make ANMS a success by playing their respective roles,” he said.
He added that, through the Engagement Session of the Minister of Health with the State Government regarding ANMS which was conducted virtually on 21 December 2021, the State Government has been asked to form the State Level ANMS Working Committee which will act as the coordinator of ANMS implementation in each state.
The ANMS-SMJ committee established in the Sabah, he said, functions to discuss work, suggestions and proposals and ensure the implementation of ANMS covers all levels involving strategic partners based on policies, promotions and planned initiatives.
“Monitoring will be carried out through the ANMS Progress Achievement Report which will be sent to the Ministry of Health to be coordinated for the purpose of updating the overall achievement of ANMS.
“The role of the State Government and the participation of all parties is important to ensure the success of ANMS down to the grassroots.
“Without close support, it will affect ANMS’s achievement to make Malaysians’ health well-being a priority through healthy living practices,” he explained, adding that the commitment of all parties is required to move as a strategic partner.
