TAWAU: Tawau MP Datuk Christina Liew has donated food aid to 56 families who lost their homes in the fire which broke out at Kg Sungai Buaya at Mile 3, Jalan Apas here, early Sunday morning.
Half the families are being accommodated in tents at the open hall which serves as a temporary evacuation centre behind Masjid Habib Abdul Rahman while the rest are sheltered under canopies near the site of the fire.
Tawau Parliamentary Chief Liaison Officer Fung Thin Yein represented Liew in presenting the food aid and bottled mineral water to the fire victims on Monday. The survivors expressed their appreciation to the elected representative for bringing relief to them.
Vice-Chief Liaison Officer Putra Andon, Liaison Officer Robert Penggai and other personnel from the Tawau Parliamentary People’s Service Centre assisted in the food distribution exercise.
Liew also provided an additional 300 packs of food for the victims’ breakfast on Monday morning.
Meanwhile, Fung extended the Tawau MP’s condolence money to the bereaved family of Saiful Rosli, 32, and wife Junaidah M. Jida, 36, who perished in the fire. The couple was reportedly engulfed in the flames.
Saiful’s mother, who received the contribution at the temporary evacuation centre, thanked Liew for her caring concern.
