TAWAU: Tawau MP Datuk Christina Liew has accepted her appointment as patron cum adviser of the Tawau Maxim e-Hailing Drivers Recreation Club.
Her acceptance followed a courtesy call by a delegation from the club led by their president Mohd Asmalil Karim here, recently.
“I am glad to be associated with the club which, I believe, can be more than just being a social entity. To my mind, e-hailing drivers can ‘double up’ as tourist guides to outstation visitors and foreign tourists. I will support the club’s activities,” Liew said in a statement on Thursday.
During the courtesy call, Mohd Asmalil expressed the hope that club members can act as a “bridge” between their elected representative and the local community.
Briefing Liew on the Maxim e-hailing service, the president said it started in Tawau in July 2019 and to date, some 3,000 people are involved in this economic sector.
“The club was registered on September 30 this year, and has about 50 members who take time off to do individual charity work, among other activities,” he said.
Maxim ranks among the top five e-hailing service providers in Malaysia.
