TAWAU: Tawau MP Datuk Christina Liew has called on the State Government to consider the people’s earnest request to allow operators of motor repair workshops, motorcycle repair shops and tyre shops in the district to operate their businesses every day for the convenience of service providers and consumers.
She said she has received complaints through the Tawau Parliamentary People’s Service Centre about the standard operating procedure (SOP) for the operating schedule that permits repair workshops and tyre shops to provide services only on certain days of the week.
“This restriction has affected ride runners engaged in food delivery services and e-hailing drivers who are on the move every day. Since the imposition of the movement control order (MCO), food and grocery delivery has become an essential service and the demand for this facility is reportedly very high in Tawau.
“As a result of frequent usage, the incidence of damage to their motorcycles and vehicles is unpredictable as a breakdown can occur at any time. This will disrupt the services provided by ride runners and e-hailing drivers if the motorcycle and motor repair workshops are not open every day,” Liew said in a statement on Sunday.
The Tawau MP contended that the restrictive operating schedule would also result in traffic congestion as vehicles requiring motor service would converge on the workshops on the specific days of operation.
She hoped the Government would duly review the SOP for the operating schedule for the motor repair workshops, motorcycle repair shops and tyre shops to operate daily within the stipulated time limits.
