Diversify information channel methods in 2024: James

KOTA KINABALU: Every consumerism program that will be planned to be implemented next year needs to diversify the methods of information channels, said Sabah Community Development and People’s Well-being Minister, Datuk James Ratib.


“Agencies and departments involved need to diversify information channels such as through mass media, social media, field activities and involve participants of various ages and different program locations,” he said.


Through such an approach, James said, he believes there is an increase in the number of Sabahans who know their rights and dare to act by using the right channels.


“The state and federal governments are always committed to help deal with issues related to consumerism and will always carry out continuous monitoring and enforcement to protect consumers, especially in the state of Sabah,” he said.


James who is also the Sugut Assemblyman said this while co-chairing the Sabah State Consumer Movement Meeting No 2/2023 held at the Hyatt Regency, Kota Kinabalu on Tuesday.


The meeting was also attended by the Director of the Office of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sabah, cum Chairman of the Sabah Consumer Movement, Georgie Abas.


James added that the meeting can be used as a medium to discuss programs or activities that could be organized together in an effort to create a cohesive network between Government agencies and stakeholders in the state of Sabah as well as to get feedback for the purpose of improvement in 2024.


“I would also like to thank our pocket talk presenter today, who is the Director of the Department of Statistics of Malaysia (DOSM) in Sabah, Muhammad Amri bin Idris, for willing to share information and provide a clearer understanding regarding the link between the Consumer Price Index or Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Inflation as well as presenters from the Sabah KPDN Office,” he said.


He took the opportunity to congratulate the Datuk Armizan bin Mohd Ali, on his appointment as the new Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) on 12 December 2023.


“Previously, Datuk Armizan was the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Duties) and was appointed as Acting Minister of KPDN after the passing of the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Bin Ayub.


“May all his efforts while carrying out his duties as KPDN Minister benefit not only all Malaysians, but also reward the deceased in the afterlife,” he explained.


Also present, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Community Development and People’s Welfare (KPMKR), Maria Chong, Permanent Secretaries of the Ministry, Chairmen of the District Consumer Movement (GPD), Heads of Departments, members of the Sabah State Consumer Movement Meeting (GPN), and the secretariats.
