KOTA KINABALU: Api Api Assemblywoman Datuk Christina Liew has commended the Kota Kinabalu District Police for ensuring an effective implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) which has been extended to April 14.
She said police personnel are like medical staff and healthcare workers, being frontliners in the essential services.
Speaking to the press after donating medical supplies and foodstuff to
the Kota Kinabalu District Police on Thursday afternoon, she said :
“We appreciate the role of the police in carrying out their duties under the MCO. From my observation, the Kota Kinabalu District Police are doing a good job in ensuring public compliance. The situation is under control.”
On hand to receive the items from Liew was City Police Chief ACPHabibi Majinji at the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters (IPD Kota Kinabalu), Karamunsing. Also present was Deputy City Police Chief
Supt George Abd Rakman.
Habibi told the Api Api Assemblywoman that some 800 police personnel are involved in keeping the MCO in place, being deployed on shift to various locations and tasked with manning roadblocks, patrolling and
maintaining public order.
Liew, who is also Deputy Chief Minister, reiterated the Government’s assurance that there is no shortage of food and other basic necessities.
“Markets, supermarkets and restaurants are open at specific hours, so please do not panic. Observe the ‘dos and don’ts’ in the MCO as we need to focus on fighting the COVID-19 pandemic now.
“Stay home, stay healthy and spend time with your family. We can work online and exercise in the home. Go out only when it is necessary, and do practise social distancing.
“Do not defy the MCO. Having the right attitude towards the Order will determine
the course of the pandemic,” she said.
She stressed that once the COVID-19 pandemic is under control, we can focus on boosting economic development. “It is imperative that the government and the private sector join hands to mobilise and ignite the economic growth engine for Sabah,” she added. –END–
