KOTA KINABALU: There is no need for emergency for Malaysia or Sabah and Batu Sapi or Sabah should not be part of the excuses to irresponsibilly impose emergency.
It is our contention that the Batu Sapi by-elections can be avoided with walkover. UPKO for one will support a candidate from the incumbent party Warisan in this by-election. It is also noteworthy that except for SAPP and PPBM all the other major parties have declared their intention not to contest.
In the event of a contest for the Batu Sapi by-election, the EC has issued a strict SOP for the campaigning and voting.
On the national front, UPKO supports the call by Bersih 2.0 that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin should seek a Confidence and Supply Agreement (CSA) with opposition parties in the Parliament if he has lost control of his ruling coalition and fear a defeat of budget in November.
UPKO is happy to join along PH, Warisan and other opposition parties in a CSA with Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin if he agrees to some key reforms like parliamentary reform and equal constituency funding to all MPs, and welcomes opposition’s input into the 2021 budget and future national budgets.
*If he is sincere about closing ranks between parties to fight Covid-19, then he should show it with action.”
If Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin prefers to take a gamble, then he must resign if his budget is defeated and not seek a fresh election. This is completely a different situation from Sabah in July when the Sabah State Government led by Dato Seri Panglima Shafie Apdal was not given a choice of CSA. End
