Appreciate and understand all the enactments in the Native Court, tradition holders told

RANAU: Traditional holders in this district, especially in DUN N38 Paginatan, are urged to appreciate and understand all the enactments contained in the Native Court (MAN) in order to empower it as an institution equal to the Civil Court.


Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Abidin Madingkir, said that all custom holders had a copy of the Native Courts enactment.


“Hence it is their duty to learn and understand the implications and procedures of each provision of the enactment that has been set,” he said.


Apart from that, in order to increase knowledge, he also urged native leaders here to diligently read the articles, the minutes of the previous MAN resignation and the MAN Enactment.


“Our society consists of various customs that differ according to place. Therefore, it is very important for customary holders to understand the provisions of the Native Court enactment to facilitate customary holders to carry out a task fairly and equitably.


“When it has been mastered and practiced with full dedication, it means that the institutionalization of the Native Court has been achieved,” he said.


Abidin who is also Paginatan Assemblyman said this when officiating the Program Pemerkasaan Adat Fasa 02/2023 peringkat Mukim Suminimpod Persatuan Pemegang Adat N.38 at the Mini Dewan Kampung Kepengian near here.


In the event, he told native leaders here that the MAN institutions need to be empowered, therefore, Custom Holders also need to be empowered.


“Leaders must know their tasks such as make decisions, prepare decision minutes. Know the procedure.


“Always be committed, trustworthy and honest in the execution of their duties and responsibilities,” he said.


Meanwhile, according to him, the traditional holders are the eyes and ears of the government, thus they must ensure that all customs are followed fairly by the community.


He hoped that the association would also be able to maintain welfare, strengthen the feeling of goodwill and mutual respect among members and the local community.


Abidin also supported the association’s efforts to publish traditional books. He said, the custom book is something very important not only as a reference for custom holders but also as a material that will be inherited by future generations.


In the event, he also approved the allocation of RM35,000 for the construction of a Balai Adat for Mukim Suminimpod, and advised them to continue supporting the government of the day.


Earlier, also speaking was the Head of Paginatan Natives as Chairman of the Meeting, Dualis Porodtong, while also present at the ceremony were CDO of Paginatan Jipili Sigal and STAR Secretary of Paginatan Division Juis Konsuling.
