RM155,000 for the repair of Bongawan Health Clinic: James

KOTA KINABALU: About RM155,000 will be allocated for the repair of the Bongawan Health Clinic in 2024, said the Minister of Community Development and People’s Well-being (KPMKR), Datuk James Ratib.

“The government through the Sabah State Health Department (JKNS) has already planned to establish a new Bongawan Type 4 Health Clinic (KK).

“However, a suitable new site is still being identified since the previously proposed land site is not suitable because it is swampy and at risk of flooding.

“The existing Bongawan Health Clinic has been listed in the poor clinic repair project for 2024 with an estimated cost of RM155,000,” he said.

He added that the proposed site area required is 10 acres for the construction of KK Type 4, quarters and other facilities for staff and patients.

James said this while answering a question from Bongawan Assemblyman, Dr. Daud bin Yusof during the first day of the Third Meeting of the Fourth Term of the Sixteenth State Legislative Assembly on Monday.
In his question, Dr Daud asked the KPMKR Minister if the government has any plans to upgrade the Bongawan Town Health Clinic.

James, who is also the Sugut Assemblyman, added that Bongawan Health Clinic started operating since 1963 in Bongawan Town.

“Originally the clinic building was a wooden building and was upgraded in 2003 to a concrete building.
“Currently, the Bongawan Health Clinic receives a total of 160 patients a day, and indeed needs to upgrade the clinic building but the existing site space is very limited,” he explained.
