Datuk Christina Liew
KOTA KINABALU – As the Year 2020 draws to a close, Api Api Assemblywoman cum Tawau MP, Datuk Christina Liew extends her “Happy and Prosperous New Year 2021” greetings to all.
In retrospect, she said we had to face major challenges in the outgoing year such as the unprecedented global Covid-19 pandemic and economic slowdown that inevitably resulted in a huge loss of lives, disrupted livelihoods and business closures.
“Despite the trials and tribulations in life, we, as leaders, strive to be strong and positive during trying times. Our thoughts are with the people as we selflessly render the necessary humanitarian aid to those in need.
“But when we are personally impacted, our faith and resilience are tested – hence, we look to God for hope, solace and blessings,” she said in a statement, here, Thursday.
Liew, a former Deputy Chief Minister, thanked medical frontliners at all levels, security forces and police personnel for dedicating their time and effort to combating the pandemic since the imposition of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in March 2020.
“As we usher in the New Year, let us thrust 2020 into the background but seriously take stock of what has happened, and anticipate a promising year for Sabah, one that is filled with hopes and aspirations for the betterment of everyone.
“If we unfailingly comply with the Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) set by the Government for the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) period which has been extended to January 14, and adopt good hygiene practices, there is no reason why Sabah should not return to normalcy in the long run, ” she said.
