KOTA KINABALU: Majlis Muhibah Aidilfitri 2022 is an ideal gathering to promote multi-racial unity and harmony in a plural society, said PKR Secretary-General Dato’ Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He said this when officiating at the festive event on behalf of Party President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here on Sunday night. It was organised by Sabah PKR State Leadership Council (MPN Sabah).

“We find people from all communities happily gathered here tonight in a spirit of goodwill as we celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri. This is a show of solidarity and togetherness among the people of Sabah, regardless of race or creed,” he said.

Saifuddin thanked Liew as the host for having invited him and other party leaders from the Central Leadership Council (MPP), who included Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Haji Amirudin Shari, Vice-President Tian Chua, Information Chief Dato’ Seri Haji Shamsul Iskandar and Communications Director Fahmi Fadzil.

Earlier, in her welcome address, Liew, who remains as the Chairman of MPN Sabah until the next Party Congress, said due to space constraints, the organisers could only accommodate 1,000 people.

“We have people from as far as Kota Marudu, Pitas, Tawau, Kalabakan, Semporna and Lahad Datu,” she said.

Sabah DAP Chairman Datuk Frankie Poon was represented by Luyang Assemblyman Ginger Phoong while UPKO President Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau was represented by Nelson Tan Sri Wences Angang.

Also present were MP for Kota Kinabalu Chan Foong Hin, Likas Assemblyman Tan Lee Fatt, Kepayan Assemblywoman Jannie Lasimbang, Inanam Assemblyman Peto Galim and the Chairman of Amanah Sabah, Lahirul Latigu.

Later, at a press conference, Saifuddin said it is the party’s desire to make the 2022 Keadilan elections as a platform to unite members, strengthen the party, invigorate the spirit of the Justice Movement, polish the idealism of reform in oneself as well as embrace and prepare all supporters of justice to face the 15th General Election (GE15).
