TAWAU: Tawau MP Datuk Christina Liew has contributed 20 tonnes of gravel for re-surfacing the village road leading to Masjid Hj Sundu and another to Masjid Kurnia Jaya in the parliamentary constituency here.
The gravel was transported to the site by a team from the Tawau Parliamentary People’s Service Centre. “My humble contribution is to help ease mobility for the convenience of village residents in the two localities – Kg Hj Sundu, Batu 2, Jalan Apas and Kg Kurnia Jaya, Batu 4, Jalan Apas. Having the road surfaced with gravel will also reduce the level of dust pollution in the areas concerned,” she said after handing over 10 tonnes of gravel to the Chairman of Masjid Kurnia Jaya, Hj Abdul Halik at the site on the eve of Hari Raya.
On behalf of the village community, Abd Halik thanked the Tawau MP for having met the Mosque Committee’s request for assistance. “It’s a timely Hari Raya gift. We will join hands to start gravelling the road leading to the mosque after the Hari Raya holidays,” he said.
This Lorong Hj Sundu goes through the village and leads to Masjid Hj Sundu.
Among those who witnessed the simple ceremony were Committee officials, Tawau Parliamentary Chief Liaison Officer, Fung Thin Yein, Liaison Officer Robert Penggai and Grace Lee from the Api Api ADUN Office.
Earlier, prior to Liew’s visit, the residents of Kg Hj Sundu had completed re-surfacing a 100-metre stretch of Lorong Hj Sundu that leads to Masjid Hj Sundu, using 10 tonnes of gravel in a gotong royong in time for Hari Raya.
