KOTA KINABALU: The Local Government and Housing Ministry (KKTP) has acquired 18 new trucks to enhance services in 12 Local Authorities (PBTs) across Sabah.
The recipient PBTs are Kudat Town Council, Semporna District Council, Keningau District Council, Beaufort District Council, Sipitang District Council, Ranau District Council, Kinabatangan District Council, Tuaran District Council, Tenom District Council, Kota Marudu District Council, Kota Belud District Council and Pitas District Council.
The trucks were officially handed over by Universal Motor Sdn Bhd during a ceremony held here today, witnessed by KKTP Permanent Secretary Datuk Dr Jamili Nais, represented by Deputy Permanent Secretary I Stanley Chong.
Expressing gratitude to Universal Motor for facilitating the purchase and delivery, Dr Jamili, in a speech read by Stanley, underscored the importance of the trucks in improving essential services. “These trucks will significantly enhance efficiency and productivity, especially in transporting solid waste from residential, commercial, and industrial areas to landfills,” he said.
The selection of PBTs was based on urgent needs to replace outdated and non-functional equipment, addressing critical gaps in local operations.
“This initiative aligns with the vision of Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ), which focuses on ensuring the prosperity and wellbeing of Sabahans,” Dr Jamili said. “The Government remains committed to fostering state development, empowering local authorities, and building a capable workforce for the future.”
He added that the initiative also complements the Strategic Plan 2021-2025, aimed at enhancing logistics infrastructure and services for local authorities statewide.
Dr Jamili urged executive officers to optimise the use of these vehicles while ensuring proper maintenance for long-term community benefits.
“It is essential to keep these vehicles clean and in good condition to maximise their service life and utility for the communities they serve,” he emphasised.
