KOTA KINABALU: The value of integrity needs to be practiced among the business community to ensure consumer satisfaction can be met, said Minister of Community Development and People’s Well-being (KPMKR) Datuk James Ratib.

“Based on research done through consumer complaints, most consumers have problems with traders who do not follow their wishes and satisfaction and they do not know their rights as consumers.

“A service that is always close to the user needs to be seen as a service that always makes integrity the main core in every practice.

“Regarding that, a work culture that combines discipline, responsibility, integrity and accountability as well as maintaining confidentiality needs to be the identity of every trader in carrying out daily transactions,” he explained.

James who is also the Sugut Assemblyman said this while officiating the “Consumers’ Choice Awards 2024/2025” Awards Ceremony held at The Magellan Sutera Resort, Kota Kinabalu, Saurday.

The text of his speech was delivered by his Political Secretary, Jenddy Datuk OKK Sanggau who also represented him to inaugurate the ceremony.

In a program organized by the Sabah National Consumer Action Council (MTPN), a total of 40 traders who have shown excellence and high commitment in performing superior services, integrity and professionalism have been selected as recipients of the Consumers’ Choice Awards 2024/2025.

He added that KPMKR is always committed to cultivating a caring and responsible society by popularizing excellent services towards the prosperity and well-being of the people.

“Through this MTPN’s Consumers’ Choice Award, I hope it can encourage local traders and entrepreneurs to continue to give commitment and effort to improve productivity and high quality service.

“This at the same time makes the service of the traders to remain a service that is relevant and trusted by users, as well as meeting their wishes and expectations,” he said.

He added that this recognition should also create healthy competition among all local entrepreneurs to prove their respective abilities to produce the best consumer services.

“Congratulations and well done to the 40 excellent entrepreneurs and traders who have been selected as recipients of this year’s Consumers’ Choice Awards after successfully passing the strict and strict audit evaluation standards.

“I am confident that this victory will have a positive impact in improving the quality of the community’s daily life. Hopefully this victory will bring a better economic and social balance in our country,” he said.

James added that the ‘Hidden Gem’ theme at the event was very suitable for the uniqueness and special features of the state of Sabah which is often not given the attention it deserves.

“Hopefully through this recognition, Sabah’s specialties and uniqueness can be more appreciated and known by the wider community.

“On behalf of the ministry, I always appreciate the sacrifices and efforts of all parties who are committed to achieving and pursuing service excellence in their respective fields for the success of themselves, the organization, the nation and the country.

“Hopefully, with this recognition, it will further awaken the spirit of devotion to the country and increase the determination to work harder and more diligently in the future to raise the image of each at the national level as well as at the global level,” he said.

James urged those concerned to make this award a starting point to continue to drive business achievements and customer service with more excellence comparable to achievements in developed countries.

“I hope that the 40 award recipients tonight should be role models for others to continue to work hard so that the targeted goals are achieved.

“I believe that all the entrepreneurs and businessmen who are here tonight are ready to increase their ability to record more success in continuing the excellence of service delivery,” he said.

This, he said, will at the same time allows them to be able to bring a big change to the country and then become an engine that drives our local economy and provides more job opportunities.

“A word of appreciation and well done to the secretariat of the council under the leadership of Yang Dipertua MTPN Sabah, Kevin Lo, who has worked tirelessly to ensure that the organization of today’s event runs smoothly.

“Continue this culture of excellence for the sake of your name and image in the future,” he explained.
