Heads of Department are also health leaders: James


KOTA KINABALU: Heads of Department are urged to cultivate health while being an example to their subordinates by always practicing a healthy lifestyle.


The Minister of Community Development and People’s Well-being, Datuk James Ratib said that physical, mental and emotional health must be promoted by superiors through the practice of exercise.


“I want to send a message that health care matters are not only for the staff, in fact I need to emphasize specifically to the Heads of Departments.


“This is because the aspect of ‘leadership by example’ should also be present in cultivating and promoting health care and a healthy lifestyle through exercise,” he said.


He who is also a member of the State Legislative Assembly (ADUN) N.48 Sugut said this when officiating the KPMKR Aerobics Launch Program held at the Lobby, Wisma Tun Fuad Stephens, Kota Kinabalu on Saturday.


In the program, James announced that the aerobics program will be held continuously at the ministry every Monday from 4pm to 5pm at the same venue.


“For information, today’s program is my own inspiration to ensure the level of fitness as well as the application of practices towards a healthy lifestyle in the KPMKR agenda.


“The Ministry is always committed to improving the level of spiritual and physical health, especially for working people, so that it can have a positive impact on character development and apply the values of a more active and healthy lifestyle.


“The aerobics program with the theme of “Healthy Society, Prosperous People” is aimed at raising awareness in health care and ensuring that every employee of KPMKR can provide better service and quality of work to stakeholders,” he said.


James added that the objective of the program was to encourage the community to live and practice and further promote a healthy lifestyle through vigorous and healthy activities such as aerobics and so on.


In addition, he said, it indirectly strengthens the friendship between KPMKR employees, departments, agencies, NGOs and the community.


He expressed his appreciation and thanks to all present, consisting of members of the KPMKR ministry, heads of State and Federal departments and agencies, NGO bodies and also the UPPM delegation from the N48 Sugut area.


“Congratulations and thanks to the executive committee for successfully organizing today’s program which I describe as very meaningful and beneficial.


“This kind of effort is a pure effort because it can directly bring awareness to all of us that taking care of health is actually a shared right and responsibility,” he said.


Also present, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Management) KPMKR, Maria David, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Wellbeing) KPMKR, Walter Kenson, Director of General Welfare Services Department, Jais Asri, Director of JHEWA, Hajah Haslina Ismail, Heads of State & Federal Departments and Agencies, Hospital Directors, Jenddy Sanggau, Political Secretary and others.
