PENAMPANG: Parents, especially fathers, have been urged to spend more quality time with their children, as their presence plays a vital role in children’s emotional development and character building.
Sabah Minister of Women, Health and People’s Wellbeing, Datuk Julita Majungki, said a father’s role extends beyond being the family’s breadwinner, as they also serve as mentors, protectors and role models who help instil values, discipline and self confidence in their children.
She said a father’s love is often expressed through sacrifice, effort and commitment to the family, even if it is not always conveyed through words.
“Take the opportunity and responsibility to be present in your children’s lives, not only as providers of material needs but also as a source of emotional support, guidance and daily inspiration.
“Children will emulate what they see. If we want a generation that is principled, disciplined and resilient, that change must begin with parents themselves,” she said.
She said this while officiating the 2026 Sabah State-Level Father’s Day Celebration themed ‘Sehebat Kasih Bapa’ here on Friday.
At the same time, Julita encouraged fathers to support one another in facing the challenges of life and parenthood so they can continue to lead their families effectively.
She said the State Government, through the Ministry of Women, Health and People’s Wellbeing (KWKKR), would continue working closely with various stakeholders, including the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN), to strengthen family institutions through family education programmes, community development initiatives and parental support programmes.
“I hope the theme ‘Sehebat Kasih Bapa’ will inspire society to continue appreciating the sacrifices of fathers and recognising their important role in building happy and prosperous families,” she said.
Also present were LPPKN Director-General, Dato Abdul Shukur Abdullah; Sabah LPPKN Director, Shahriah Saharom; KWKKR Deputy Permanent Secretary, Henry Idol; and Sabah Women’s Affairs Department (JHEWA) Director, Haslina Ismail.
