KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sabah reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening economic and business ties between Sabah and China by hosting a Welcome Dinner and Networking Session for a delegation from the Dalian Federation of Industry and Commerce, China.
Its president, Datuk Dexter Lau, said the visit marked a significant milestone in deepening bilateral relations following MCCC Sabah’s official visit to Dalian in May this year, reflecting the strong and growing friendship between the two regions.
He said MCCC Sabah remains committed to promoting Malaysia-China cooperation beyond trade and investment, encompassing government relations, education, culture, tourism, technology and youth development.
“Our aspiration is to serve as the strongest bridge connecting Sabah and China while creating greater opportunities for business collaboration and sustainable economic growth for both sides,” he said in his welcoming address.
Lau noted that throughout the year, MCCC Sabah had maintained close engagement with the Chinese government, provincial and municipal administrations, the Federation of Industry and Commerce, business associations, enterprises, as well as Malaysian government agencies, Sabah state institutions and major business chambers.
He said the chamber has evolved into a key platform facilitating Malaysia-China cooperation and has become the first point of contact for Chinese enterprises seeking investment opportunities in Sabah and East Malaysia.
At the same time, MCCC Sabah continues to support Sabah-based businesses in expanding into the Chinese market through its extensive network of strategic partnerships, he added.
The dinner brought together representatives from various business chambers, industry associations, government agencies, government-linked companies (GLCs), higher education institutions and corporate leaders across Sabah to welcome the Dalian delegation.
According to Lau, the strong turnout reflected the importance attached to Malaysia-China cooperation and demonstrated MCCC Sabah’s ability to unite stakeholders and mobilise resources in fostering meaningful business collaboration.
He emphasised that mutual trust remains the cornerstone of successful partnerships, adding that MCCC Sabah would continue serving as a bridge to facilitate investment, trade and business opportunities between Sabah and China.
Lau expressed confidence that the Dalian delegation’s visit would pave the way for new areas of collaboration, further strengthening the longstanding friendship between Malaysia and China while generating greater economic opportunities for both regions.
